Client: D+Z Constructions Product: ACROWALL-80

Putting formwork on the board in WA

Supplying high quality drinking water to more than 100,000 people is no small task, particularly when it involves upgrading 100-year-old facilities! When D+Z Constructions embarked on constructing a new water treatment plant as part of the Mundaring Weir Water Supply Improvement Project, they turned to Acrow, Perth’s only supplier of formwork capable of meeting the demands of the job in Perth.

The new water treatment plant will be able to treat up to 160 megalitres of water per day. D+Z Constructions were contracted to construct the plant’s water tank and retaining walls. When they engaged Acrow to design and supply the formwork, they were looking for a product that was suited to such a large-scale project, says Acrow Account Manager, Steven Tip.

“Acrowall 80 formwork is 3.3 metres high and 2.4 metres wide. These dimensions suited the scale of the project,” explains Steven. “Significantly, Acrowall 80 is an 80kpa pressure rated panel, as per Australian Standards. Our competition could only offer 60kpa. The extra capacity of Acrowall 80 means you can pour the concrete more quickly, achieving a better finish and saving both time and money.”

While other formwork suppliers can offer similar products, they would have had to truck them across from the east, at considerable cost. Acrowall 80 was on hand in Acrow Perth, streamlining the process for D+Z Constructions.

“Another cost saving resulted from Acrowall 80s unique construction. With conventional formwork there is time and labour involved in the assembly, but with Acrowall 80 all you need to do is clamp the panels together and lift them into position,” says Steven.

Acrow’s in-house engineering division produced accurate working drawings for the formwork component of the water tank and retaining walls, and the panels were supplied from Acrow’s Perth warehouse.

“Throughout the project, the Acrow boys were very quick to respond and have the panels ready for the client as soon as they needed them. We’re very service oriented at Acrow, and the feedback we received from D+Z Constructions was very positive.”
